Defibrillator Sign Solutions

We have a variety of AED signs available in a wide range of sizes, so you’re sure to find one that suits your needs and workplace perfectly. For something simple but clear, consider the AED Automated External Defibrillator Signs, which conform to all current legislation and come in the immediately recognisable colour of green, which indicates first aid help. These are for universal application so can be applied to pretty much anything, making the sign eminently versatile. They are durable and available in plastic or vinyl.

If your workplace is large, you might also need signposts to indicate where the defibrillator is located, rather than just using a sign for the AED in one location. If this is the case, then the First Aid Anti-Slip Floor Sign - Defibrillator This Way might be a good idea, or alternatively consider the AED Available Inside Window Signs. The latter can be fixed in windows or in the glass of doors for clear, accurate signage and it comes in a choice of two sizes. In fact, we have a number of door and corridor signs available, so no matter where the defibrillator is placed inside the workplace, workers and visitors can be made aware of where to find it.

One of the most practical qualities of a defibrillator in a large workplace is that it can, for the most part, be used by just about anyone and requires no training or even prior knowledge. However, it is a good idea to provide users with as much information as possible, which is where our information signs and kits come in. The AED Awareness Sign and Poster Kits not only contain your choice of corridor sign, hanging, 3D, or glow in the dark sign, but they also include A2 informational posters that provide users with the knowledge necessary to safely and quickly use the defibrillator.

Similarly, Defibrillator Information Points have a 3D header with the easily recognisable first aid cross against a green background to ensure it cannot be missed, as well as a choice of either guidance for trained users or guidance for untrained users. In both cases, the information provided is clear, concise and easy to follow and can either help remind a first aider of how best to use a defibrillator or inform a completely untrained user on how to safely use the AED.

Defibrillators are a wise investment for any workplace, as cardiac arrest can affect anyone. In order to keep workers safe, investing in this type of device is a great idea and once you do so, an AED sign should be the next thing you purchase and fit. Before purchasing your own AED Signs it is crucial you read through our Automated External Defibrillator- AED guide which will make sure you know everything about the life saving equipment.

FAQs

Does my business need an AED?

There is currently no legislation that requires UK businesses to have an AED on site. However, there can be a liability for negligence under UK law if a business or other organisation fails to take appropriate safety precautions to keep staff, customers and visitors safe. This means that if someone suffers a cardiac arrest on your premises and there is no means to resuscitate them, it is possible that you could find yourself at the centre of legal action.

For this reason, many UK businesses are deciding to install AEDs and associated defibrillator accessories, especially if their clients have additional risk factors, so you will commonly see them in gyms, leisure centres and sports clubs, as well as in businesses and organisations that cater to an older clientele. The use of AEDs has proved to be very successful over the years, so it is unsurprising that businesses want to protect themselves and their customers and staff by providing AEDs on site. The UK Resuscitation Council has provided guidelines in its publication CPR, AEDs and the law, which includes, on page 21, the responsibility to provide an AED in a public place, and looks at potential liability, risk assessment and also cost and training considerations.

Is there a standard sign for AEDs?

The Resuscitation Council (UK) has designed standard signage and symbols to draw attention to AED locations. A survey of UK adults was carried out in 2015 to find out what would be the most recognisable design and what wording would encourage people to actually use defibrillators, if it were necessary. As a result, you will see certain symbols and wording on standard UK AED signs, such as a stylised ECG heart trace, a supine person showing the suggested placement of defibrillator pads, and the words ‘Defibrillator – Heart Restarter’. This particular wording, and the associated symbols, have proved to be the type of words and imagery that encourage people to use AEDs.

As a result of new guidelines developed after the 2015 survey, AED information posters were also updated. Posters are most useful if they support certain key messages, such as:
  • Anyone can use an AED

  • No training is necessary

  • Just follow instructions

  • It is easy to use

  • It is intended for use on an unconscious person who is not breathing normally

Posters and information kits that stress these facts are more likely to lead to AEDs being used by members of the general public in the case of an emergency.

Where should I place an AED?

Where you place your AED and your AED signs can determine, at least partially, the chance of survival for someone who experiences a cardiac arrest on your premises. AEDs should be convenient, centralised, and located in areas that have the highest risk of someone experiencing cardiac arrest. They should be highly visual and never placed in any kind of container that might delay accessing and using the machine.

AED location signs can be used to draw attention to an AED that is close by, but AED defibrillator signs should also be placed around the building to indicate where the nearest AED is. If you have a multi-storey building, for example, but only one AED, then AED wall signs or information posters around the building should indicate which floor the AED is located on. In this case, you would also want to put AED signs near stairs and lifts, to indicate on which floor the nearest defibrillator can be found.
