Choosing Emergency & Rescue Stretchers

What is an emergency stretcher?

Emergency stretchers enable you to reduce the risk of additional injury to patients when you transport them after a medical incident, accident or other emergencies. For example, rescue operations may need to be conducted in challenging conditions, such as where there has been damage to a building or outdoors on rugged terrain. Lightweight stretchers that can bear heavy loads are vital to facilitate moving people as quickly and efficiently as possible.

What are the types of stretchers?

We offer a range of patient stretchers, including an emergency folding stretcher for easier storage and transportation and an ambulance scoop stretcher, which can be extended from 1200mm to 1900mm. It features an open central panel to allow x-rays to be taken of the spine without the need to move the patient off the stretcher. Our spinal immobilisation board protects patients with suspected back injuries, minimising the risk of further damage in transit. If patients need to be moved from your premises onto an ambulance or hospital stretcher, the patient transfer sheet can make this process smoother and safer.

What is the difference between a stretcher and a gurney?

A gurney is used to transport patients who need to be kept lying flat, but a stretcher cannot be used because only one person is available to carry the patient. A gurney has wheels and can therefore be moved by one person for convenient and efficient patient transport in an emergency when every second counts.

What kinds of patients are stretchers used for?

Using a stretcher or other specialist equipment to move an injured person can help to protect the back, neck, or other body parts from further injury. You must have equipment available to support people who are injured and need evacuation, as well as those who cannot leave a building in an emergency without help due to disabilities, as required under the Disability Discrimination Act 1995.

Emergency and rescue stretchers and evacuation products are essential to a company’s safety plans to keep injured and disabled staff, customers and visitors safe in the event of an emergency on the premises. When there is a suspected back, neck or leg injury, a stretcher will ensure minimal movement of the casualty’s body during transportation.

Evacuation Accessories

For additional protection, a head immobiliser can be used when moving patients. The head immobiliser we supply is compatible with support collars and spinal boards and allows access to the patient’s ear canal so monitoring can continue. Our range of adjustable stretcher straps adds to safety, ensuring that the patient can be transported without unnecessary movement when on the stretcher.

Stretcher Labels and Signage

When an incident occurs, it is essential that safety products, such as emergency stretchers, can be accessed immediately. Stretcher first aid signs and labels make it easy for staff and other people on the premises to locate the stretcher and other emergency products quickly. Ensure your emergency stretcher signage is displayed prominently to avoid unnecessary delays in evacuating people and transporting patients.

Our emergency stretchers are designed with hygiene in mind and are easy to keep clean. Where appropriate, fire-retardant materials are used for optimal safety.
